"Yellow Star" was created on 29th August 2015 - the day of the Bersih 4 rally. Yellow is the colour for Bersih (clean) - a coalition of NGOs to ensure free, clean and fair elections. A series of planned rallies with an estimated 500,000 people were carried out in Malaysia over two days, with people calling for clean and transparent governance in Malaysia. People were also protesting the results of the 2013 general elections whereby the opposition won the majority vote but lost in seat number, accusing the ruling party of cheating its way to yet another election victory.
Artist Red created "Yellow Star" so followers could share and use the image online, to share hope with others despite the disappointment and political uncertainty. The yellow star represents a guiding light in the midst of chaos. The piece was inspired by Coldplay's lyrics in the song "Yellow":
"Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah they were all yellow."
